Data Sources
The official public data sources GovAwardData.com draws from and the specific fields retained for each award and entity.
Official public sources
GovAwardData.com is designed to draw from official public federal procurement systems. Access details and terms are documented and verified in our data source audit before any live ingestion is enabled.
- USAspending.gov — public award and transaction data and bulk download endpoints. Currently understood to be publicly accessible without an API key (subject to verification and rate limits).
- SAM.gov — entity and contract award data. SAM.gov APIs generally require a registered account and API key, and some require system-account approval. We do not assume key-less access.
- Official data dictionaries — used to map and define each retained field.

For awards, we retain identifiers, parties, values, dates, and classifications, including:
- PIID, award identifiers, and source record URL
- Recipient legal business name, UEI, and CAGE code

- Base obligation, current total value, and potential total value
- Action/obligation date and period of performance
- NAICS and PSC codes with descriptions
- Place of performance
- Source system, source updated date, and last synced date
For entities, we retain legal name, DBA names, UEI, CAGE, location, and NAICS/PSC mix.
